It’s been a while since I decided that I needed a new logo. Two unsuccessful attempts – of making them myself – and one failed website later, I had pretty much accepted that the only way I would get a good logo was to hire a professional graphic designer. But in true start-up, pennilessness I didn’t have the money to do that. Nor did I like the countless ‘pre made’ logos that were being sold on business logo websites. I mean… they’re not good enough are they? Everyone else has that one too…
So! I buried myself in graphic design books and articles about what makes a good logo, how to build them on Photoshop and read chapter after chapter about the “science of logos” and business presentation. In addition, I searched for the top 50 most inspiring logos of all time, and the 10 best photography logos of the day. Then I looked through some graphic designer’s portfolios to look at the more recent popular styles for Photographers today. After reading all of that, I looked up from the last sentence of a very boring book, turned and threw it out the window, and reverted to something Steve Jobs said:“One of my mantras – Focus and Simplicity. Simple can be harder than complex: You have to work hard to get your thinking clean to make it simple. But it’s worth it in the end because once you get there, you can move mountains.” Steve Jobs.
I took another look at my work, both my professional commercial business and my nature work, and tried to visualise something that is very simple and focused. This is what I have come up with. I’m nowhere near finished yet, I’ve only begun my journey to discover the right logo for me, but I’d like to ask you what you think about them. Am I on the right track?
So this one is for my Professional Website:
These are for my nature & landscape business and website:
And these ones, just because… I wanted to experiment!
